Skin blemishes are common amongst adults. But having oily skin and having still having skin blemishes has to be the worst combo.

You cannot just use any concealer. The enlarged pores that makes your skin oily will be clogged if you cream and stick concealer making them more visible and your skin more oily.

You will therefore need to go for lightweight liquid concealer.

Since you wouldn’t want to look ridiculous, you should definitely go for waterproof concealer.

Waterproof concealers have ingredients that are resistant to sebum and will last up to 5× longer than ordinary concealers.

From my previous guide to waterproof concealer, I gave you some tips you can use to transform ordinary concealer to waterproof. That guide will be of so much help for starters.

In this guide I will help you choose the best waterproof concealers for oily skin and also give you a guide on how to use waterproof concealer to last longer.

How to use waterproof concealer on oily skin

Before we get into the application part of this guide, I will incorporate full steps you should use when finding a legit waterproof concealer to prevent future frustrations.

1. Check if the concealer is labeled waterproof

If you have an oily skin, you wouldn’t want to make a mistake of picking a concealer that I not waterproof.

There are a lot of concealers that are labeled waterproof only to find that they are not waterproof.

So, the first thing you should do after finding the label “waterproof” check for the ingredients.

Most waterproof concealers uses binding agents such as silica, Acrylate, copolymer, or Isododecan.

So, if you don’t see any of the four ingredients on the concealer packaging, the concealer might not be waterproof and you should not take your chances with it.

Since you have an oily skin, you should avoid concealers that have oil in them.

Oily concealers will clog your pores and also make your face look more oily.

When searching for a concealer that will not clog your pores, check for non-comedogenic on the label.

Another important ingredient that you should look for in a waterproof concealer is Actyl-C. Actyl-C helps keep your skin healthy, radiant and fresh all day.

2. Pick the right shade

You might have found a perfect waterproof concealer for your oily skin.

But when it comes to pickling the right shade of concealer you hit outside.

If you have read my previous posts on how to choose a concealer shade,  you will have no struggle picking the right concealer for your skin.

Alternatively, you can use concealer shade finders tools online.

3. Pick concealers from known brands

As the cost of producing and the technology to manufacture become more available for everyone, it is possible to get waterproof concealers that are not up to standards.

The reason I advice you to buy from well known brands is the fact that well known brands will not risking spoiling their hard earned brand reputation.

They therefore tend to use high-quality ingredients and technology to produce legit waterproof concealers.

4. Apply a primer

Even with the best waterproof concealer, you will still need a primer to create a smooth surface between your oily skin and the waterproof concealer.

Do not use an oil or water based primer on your oily skin

Mineral-based primer will work wonders for you.

You should not also use a silicone-based primer since it will dry up your skin.

5. Apply an oil absorbent setting powder

If you want to create a long lasting makeup look, you can go ahead and use an oil absorbent setting powder

A setting powder will create a surface between your make-up and your skin preventing your skin from any ingredients that might harm your skin.

Applying a setting powder before your foundation and concealer also makes your concealer flawless.

6. Use other waterproof makeup products

If you want to apply foundation before your waterproof concealer, you should go for waterproof foundation

A waterproof foundation will also add to the longevity of your makeup.

There are many brands that sell high quality waterproof foundations. You should then go ahead and apply your waterproof concealer using this step-by-step process to ensure it does not look cakey.

You can choose to apply a waterproof blush, highlight, lipstick, eyeliner, or any other makeup products of your choice.

7. Bake your makeup with a finish powder

Before finishing up your makeup, you should consider a finish powder to bake your makeup.

This will reduce any glossy makeup look. It will also add to the longevity of your makeup.

You can also use a waterproof setting spray. A setting spray will lock in your makeup.

You can go ahead with your day without worrying about your makeup rubbing off.

8. Buy a makeup remover

Sleeping with makeup on is the worst injustice you can ever do to your skin.

Considering your skin is oily, when the oil is locked in for hours, your skin will react by breaking out.

Since you are applying waterproof makeup, warm water might not be useful at the moment

There are a lot of makeup removal products in the market.
